BetMGM Poker just made history by becoming the first Pennsylvania poker operator to network its players with opponents in other states. Today, April 28, is the first day that it’s legally possible for online poker rooms to do so.
This activation comes in the wake of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro g the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement, making it the sixth state to legalize multi-state poker.
Pennsylvania is now part of a growing group of states, including New Jersey, West Virginia, Nevada, Michigan, and Delaware, that are working together to create a larger, more dynamic online poker environment.
What does this mean for players? More action and a chance to take on opponents from across the region.
Promotions and tournaments on the horizon
For now, BetMGM’s shared player pool will be limited to Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Michigan. This is because BetMGM Poker currently operates in only these three states from the MSIGA clique.
Nonetheless, there’s still a lineup that will interest players. What is in store?
A $35,000 freeroll on April 29 at 7:05 p.m. ET, and the winner will also score a $5,000 package to the BetMGM Poker Championship at Aria Casino in Las Vegas this summer.
After this, the operator will be presenting a May Millions series, which kicks off on May 8 and runs through the May 11. This series features 18 events, including a $2,500 Super High Roller and a $1,000 Championship tournament with a $400,000 guarantee.
In addition to the May Millions, players can spin a wheel every day they to BetMGM Poker for a chance to win a tournament ticket worth up to $500.
Looking ahead to the summer, the BetMGM Poker Championship is set to return to ARIA in Las Vegas from June 30 to July 4. If you’re interested in competing, you can qualify online every Thursday and Sunday at 9:15 p.m. ET. Over 100 players will win packages that include
Online poker market on an expansion drive
Besides being one of the largest states to this pact, the Keystone State is also packed with about 150,000 online poker players.
As a press release from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reads, Pennsylvania’s inclusion expands the pool of online poker players by over 50%.
No doubt the poker community is thrilled at the idea of Pennsylvania ing the multistate market, anticipating it would move up the competition and unlock bigger prizes.
According to BetMGM Vice President of Gaming Angus Nisbet, this shakeup will also cause an increase in games and many more “bigger tournaments” for players.
But that’s not all, as there’s still plenty of room for expansion—and more states could be on the horizon. Nevada, in particular, seems like a prime candidate, given the company’s decade-long license in the state. Now, it’s just a matter of time before we see how this unfolds.
