The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is expanding its marketing reach to Texas. In anticipation of the potential expansion of gambling in Texas, the tribe could be taking necessary precautions by further establishing its brand in the Lone Star State.

Last week, Grandscape, an outdoor shopping and entertainment destination in North Dallas, struck a branding deal with Choctaw Casinos & Resorts.

The partnership makes Choctaw the “official casino and resort/sports betting partner” of Grandscape. However, that doesn’t mean sports betting is legal in North Dallas.

Kate Wedekind, campaign and media relations manager at Grandscape, said the deal is strictly for branding purposes.

“This partnership is mainly for brand promotion and sponsorship purposes, similar to the ones we have with [other companies]. Sports betting didn’t really factor into it at this point because we haven’t got that yet. And we don’t know when it’s coming.”

The five-year deal will allow Choctaw to sponsor live concerts, fitness events and festivals at Grandscape.

Not the first partnership for Choctaw Nation

This isn’t the first Texas partnership for the Choctaw Nation. In 2019, the tribe became the Official and Exclusive Casino and Resort of the Texas Rangers (MLB).

Then in 2021, the tribe secured a naming rights agreement with the Rangers, which it used to rename the team’s old ballpark to Choctaw Stadium.

Although no specifics have been released, part of the Grandscape deal could also include an incentive program. Customers could have the chance to earn rewards points redeemable at any Choctaw property in Oklahoma, including its flagship casino resort in Durant, OK, which is less than an hour from Grandscape.

And since Texas sports betting continues to remain illegal, the deal will ensure customers keep heading to Oklahoma. According to the Durant location, at least two-thirds of its guest live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
