October was a big month for Maryland casinos as the industry recorded one of the most profitable months in history.

For October, casinos in Maryland generated $212.9 million in gross gaming revenue. According to data from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission (MLGCC), the six casinos blew past the previous record of $181.5 million set in July 2022.

MGM National continues to lead Maryland casinos

The top earner in Maryland was MGM National Harbor with a record $115 million. Once again, table games proved to be the most lucrative option at the MGM Resort. The casino won $73.2 million on blackjack, craps and baccarat throughout October.

Year-over-year revenue for the industry was up 37.4% from the $155 million recorded in October of last year.

Other top casino operators include:

  • Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland – $59.6 million
  • Hollywood Casino Perryville – $7.5 million
  • Rockey Gap Casino – $5.2 million
  • Ocean Downs Casino – $8 million
  • Horseshoe Casino Baltimore – $17.4 million

Tax revenue also up in Maryland

Casinos weren’t the only ones enjoying a stellar month.

Contributions to the state totaled $79,964,739, an increase of 16% compared to October 2021, in which the state collected $11,040,704.

Maryland uses casino tax revenue to fund The Education Trust Fund (ETF). For October, the fund received $58,327,385, up 16.6% from a year ago.

More gambling options are on the way

There is a possibility that revenue could increase in due time. Although in-person Maryland sports betting is available at the six casinos, the state hopes to get its online sports betting industry up and running in late November or early December.

The six casinos and their d operators have already been deemed suitable for mobile licenses by the MLGCC.

Customers can expect to see popular operators like DraftKings, FanDuel and BetMGM roll out mobile apps soon. The MD Sports Wagering Application Review Commission will meet on Nov. 21 to issue licenses.

Online sports betting partnerships:

  • FanDuel – Live! Casino and Hotel
  • BetMGM – MGM National Harbor
  • Caesars – Horseshoe Casino Baltimore
  • Barstool – Hollywood Casino Perryville
  • TwinSpires – Ocean Downs Casino
  • BetRivers – Bingo World
  • PointsBet – Riverboat on the Potomac
