After months of delays, the Cedars Sportsbook at 7 Cedars Casino in Blyn had its much-anticipated ribbon-cutting ceremony last Thursday, Jan. 12. Casino officials called the Washington sportsbook event a “quiet opening.”

The ceremony commenced with locally renowned sportscaster, Howard “Scooter” Chapman, placing the customary first bet. According to Peninsula Daily News, casino CEO Jerry Allen said in a statement:

“This is the first legal bet in Clallam County ever. This event is going into the time capsule that will be opened in 50 or 100 years.”

Even though the 2023 Seattle Seahawks playoff run ended abruptly, folks in Blyn still have something to look forward to this NFL playoff season.

Cedars Sportsbook opening delayed but worth the wait

Sports fanatics won’t miss any action because Cedar Sports has built a state-of-the-art sportsbook-style theater for their viewing pleasure. The new theater boasts two 21- and 22-foot TV screens.

“We added those two big screens. We need to keep up with the times and the changes. We’re glad to be able to do it,” Allen stated.

Ownership planned for the Washington sportsbook to open on Aug. 1 but encountered some issues with its partner, Penn National. Allen explained, “it was big-picture stuff, and it really delayed the whole thing. But, as I tell people, we are here for the long run, not the short run.”

Luckily, for bettors in the Washington area, the sportsbook didn’t miss the entire NFL season.

The new addition to 7 Cedars Casino accommodates six self-service sports-betting kiosks. The kiosks are available to bettors in both the casino and the hotel.

Casino manager a good fit for new Washington sportsbook

Veteran 7 Cedars Casino Manager Bill Matsko was one notable face at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Matsko was a part of the casino when it opened in 1995. He returned to 7 Cedars after working in Palm Springs.

“He’s a Vegas guy. He has the face and the personality,” Allen shared. “People like to see a friendly face, and Bill will be one of our greatest assets.”
